Glad you asked! I was really big into nature documentaries when I was little. For example, I learned from the Little Mermaid that a select group of people lived in a delightful city made out of seashells under the sea and all the animals there could talk! That story had me going for a while, but now I see the ocean and creation in an even more exciting way.
Some obvious things I notice when I think about the ocean are God’s beauty and strength, but I also think that seahorses reflect God's beauty in a more understated and unexpected way. Here are some fun seahorse facts that I find very endearing/amusing:
They live in tropical and temperate shallow waters in coral reefs and seagrass beds. Love it. Where can I sign up?
They are a little bit shy.
They have a very specific shape.
They are delicate. Seahorses move very slowly and can only travel short distances because their fins are so tiny (they are known to die of exhaustion if the current is too strong)! And yet…
The seahorse is one of the deadliest predators in the ocean. Since they move so slowly, they can swim through the water undetected to stalk their target with a 90% success rate. To put that into perspective, a great white shark has a 50% success rate and an African lion only has a 25% success rate. You think you know a fish!
Food passes through them right away because they have no stomach, so they eat almost constantly to stay alive. Sounds familiar to me : )
